Leading the women’s race is Sydney’s Charlotte Paul, returning from her first campaign at the Hawaii Ironman in October.
Paul has set herself some lofty standards recently with consecutive top 3 finishes at Ironman Western Australia and top 10 finishes at events overseas. Paul’s strength is her running but an improved bike leg now sees her with a real shot of winning each race she enters.
Competing against Paul will be Lisa Marangon who finished second at last year’s Port Macquarie Half Ironman when it was part of the world-wide Ironman 70.3 series.
Marangon led for almost the entire race last year only to be overtaken by Belinda Granger with a few kilometres to go.
