Young and fast

From the US Olympic marathon trials

Joan Benoit Samuelson, 50, ran her fourth Olympic trials in 2:49:08.

If only ...

The biggest cheers on the Boston Marathon course went to Lance Armstrong, the seven-time winner of the Tour de France. In his only previous marathons, he finished in 2:59:36 and 2:46:43 in New York the last two years. Here, he ran 2:50:58, not bad, he said, for a 175-pound man who trained only 45 minutes a day.

“I did O.K.,” he said, “but it’s always hard at the end. I don’t train enough and I always tell myself I’m going to train longer, but I never do. I’m not as physically fit as I was for New York, and those hills here are so tough on your muscles. I enjoyed it, but I always suffer in a marathon."

Hot and humid

Kudos to Juan, Alex and Amanda for fronting the line in China.

The pro times, in particular Belinda's winning time of 10:08, suggest it was a tough day for everyone.

Ironman Oz

Several superb performances on the day:

How about Luke McKenzie leading the race for most of the day. Wow.

And how about Lisa who worked her way into second and then third on the bike, pushing the world champ along the way before having to end her day and rest her foot.

Sub10 efforts: JH, Dingo, JC, John Mergler

Two M-dot finishes in as many months: Dingo, JC, Andrew Howse

Tess Waterhouse - 1st in her age group .. she became a mom for the first time about a year ago .. no doubt a bit of a boost to Chris who's on the mend

Little Jacqui reaches the podium in her first ironman

Kudos to Robbie, Trent
