Mottram Takes Bronze in 5k

Aussie Craig Mottram was a bronze medal in the IAAF's 5k event in Helsinki in a time of 13:32.96. "I am very much pleased with this result. The first few laps were very slow so I just tried to stay calm. Over the last kilometre I stepped up my speed a little, and the I just waited for the last 250m and the finish, where I gave it all I had."

The 5km gold went to Benjamin Limo of Kenya in 13:32.55 and the silver to Ethiopian Sileshi Sihine in 13:32.81.

In other news:

Paula Radcliffe won the marathon in 2:20:57, leading from start to finish and set a new Championships Record. She holds the world record time of 2:15:25. Earlier in these championships, she placed ninth in the 10k in a time of 30:42.75.
