The Next Day

The toughest part of any Ironman is the morning after. The objective that's driven every waking hour for the last few months has passed. Few people have set a new one.

Congrats to all of you who raced yesterday. It wasn't easy, though a few of you made parts of the course look short!

Enjoy the success that comes with crossing the finish line. It's a huge accomplishment, especially if it was the first. Ironman has a huge learning curve.

For those of you who exceeded your expectations, smile a lot. It's a great feeling. Enjoy it.

For those of you who struggled, don't be too hard on yourselves. The disappointment will ease.

If you're like any other high-reaching athlete, you'll be reviewing and comparing results all week. I remember a suggestion from JH from a previous year: make a list of five positives that you'll take from the experience. Focus on expanding that list in the months and years ahead.
